Job Description
In this role, within the Publishing team, you will provide editorial and administrative support to our small but busy publishing team, enabling the creation of 8-10 frontlist books, 4+ products and over 100 reprints a year. This role would suit an entry-level candidate, ideally with a qualification or some experience in proofreading. You will be an important member of the team, working to ensure our books and products are accurate, produced on time and to the highest, market-leading, standards.
The Role
- Proofreading – keying in corrections and checking PDF layouts
- Liaising with freelance editors / designers
- Clearing text and image permissions
- Working with picture researchers – processing invoices, liaising between researchers and designers, logging receipt of images and noting expiry dates of permissions
- Organising delivery of contributor complimentary copies
- Logging and checking reprint corrections
- Uploading eBooks to digital platforms
- Liaising with the sales team and providing necessary details on books
- Taking minutes in meetings and other ad-hoc support tasks as requested
You will have a passion for books and great attention to detail, with a desire to learn and grow in a fast-paced, busy publishing business. As a small independent publisher, it is key that we are nimble and able to pivot to new challenges as they present themselves, to thrive in this environment you will be flexible, calm and pragmatic. You will be a detail-oriented, proactive, self-starter who is comfortable working independently and as part of a team.
Experience
- Experience with MS Word, Excel and Outlook. Familiarity with InDesign would be an advantage - Proofreading qualification or related experience
Desired Qualifications
- Degree in Publishing, English or other related subjects

Superpower
- Excellent command of the English language and attention to detail
