Psychotherapy
Too often, psychotherapy is thought of as an extreme measure or a bizarre indulgence. At The School of Life, we believe it would benefit many of us to talk in confidence to an exceptionally responsive person about our private concerns.
Rather than approaching therapy from a purely clinical perspective, we engage you in an enlightening conversation marked by curiosity, respect and kindness. Perhaps you are looking for ways to deepen your relationship, or want to learn more about what kind of parent you are. Maybe you are frustrated by aspects your working life, and know you could be more productive and fulfilled. Whatever your interest or concern, our aim is to take you on a fascinating and valuable tour of your own psyche.
It is widely held that it is the quality of your relationship with the therapist, rather than the type of therapy, that is most critical to a successful outcome. However, it can be difficult to find a therapist who is a good match as psychotherapy is a notoriously complex field where you’re liable to stumble on a disturbing number of gurus and shamans. We offer a referral service to connect individuals to therapists we know and recommend, but we do not endorse any particular form of therapy. All of the psychotherapists affiliated with The School of Life are registered with the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) and the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) or the British Psychoanalytic Council.
Appointments are generally scheduled within 1-2 weeks of your initial query, but if you are feeling that you would really like to talk to someone sooner, we recommend speaking to your GP in the first instance.
