About This Event

Art as Therapy offers a new way of approaching art, not as an object of historical or stylistic admiration, but as a guide for life. Certain artworks, the authors argue, hold the power to provide solutions to our problems, if only we learn to engage with them in the right way. In this event, you’ll explore a series of paintings and other works from across the ages, reframed and recontextualised so that their emotional wisdom becomes accessible.

Art can soothe, console, and illuminate. Henri Fantin-Latour, for example, painted almost a hundred roses in a short period of time, fully aware of life’s harsh realities: bankruptcy, illness, and isolation. Yet in those roses, he captured something deeply restorative, a quiet, persistent hope.

Join us for an evening in which you can engage with art not only as something to admire, but as a tool for understanding yourself, your relationships, and your world. It’s a chance to discover how the beauty and insight contained in great art can help you navigate life’s difficulties, and to do so in the company of fellow Members who share your curiosity and openness.
