Job: Staff Writer for The Philosophers' Mail
The Philosophers' Mail is a new news organisation from The School of Life. It interprets news stories from an oblique angle, with an eye to kindness, compassion, emotional maturity and generosity. It is trying to be wise as well as kind and eye-opening.
The ideal candidate will be in tune with the ethos of the Philosophers' Mail, will have studied the site very carefully, will be able to write precisely but also at times lyrically - and will be able to tackle new topics very quickly (ranging from a piece about Picasso to a little piece on Cameron Diaz). An interest in popular culture, the humanities, political ideas and photography are assets.
This is a full-time paid job, which would suit a recent-ish graduate with a first-class humanities degree from a top university. The candidate would have to be ready to undergo training to fit in with the house style.
In your application, the key piece of information is a 200 word (minimum) sample piece that you think would be suitable for the Philosophers' Mail (please read the site very, very carefully). Please also include a CV and covering letter and send to email@example.com
Closing date for applications: 3 May 2014
