ART THERAPIST

Freelance role

The School of Life is a pioneer of ‘culture therapies’: unique consultation services which provide tailor made cultural prescriptions in response to an individual’s needs.  We began with Bibliotherapy, a prescription reading service, which has now been running for many years and to great acclaim.

We are now seeking to expand our cultural therapies offering to cover other creative disciplines, including the visual arts.

The School of Life believes that art can be appreciated, not just for its stylistic or historic merits, but also in terms of its therapeutic value.  Our Art Therapy service will offer tailor-made prescriptions to those looking to deepen and expand the role of art in their lives, and use art as a tool to address central questions about their values, meaning and purpose.

The art therapist will be an Art History or Fine Arts graduate with a deep knowledge of the visual arts which spans a variety of cultures, mediums and periods. They will be thoroughly versed in the Great Masters yet have their finger on the pulse of the contemporary art world. A skilled listener, they will ideally have training as a therapist and must be mature enough to take on board a client's individual needs and concerns, creating a prescription that reflects the client's, rather than their own, tastes and interests. They'll be vibrant, intellectually curious and personable.

Briefed and trained by the TSOL team this summer, the appointed art therapist will be responsible for booking their own timetable in coordination with The School of Life, offering one-to-one sessions according to demand from September  2013.

If you think you may be an ideal candidate for this exciting new creative role please send your CV and a brief cover letter explaining why you would be a great Art Therapist to: jobs@theschooloflife.com

Please give Art Therapist as the subject heading.

The deadline for applications is 7th June 2013

A more detailed job description is available upon request.

Shortlisted candidates will be notified after the closing date.
