Humans are naturally meaning making creatures; we are constantly making meaning from our lived experience of a dynamic and diverse world. The meaning we take from life's moments can be as diverse as the experiences themselves; challenging, joyful, frustrating, and sometimes, life-changing. Why is it that we so rarely take time to consciously mark periods of change in our lives, missing the opportunity for meaning making?
For many, philosophy, psychology and rational thought is not enough to help us deal with the journeys and transformations we travel throughout our lives. Ritual and meaningful practice provides an opportunity to reflect on our journey, connect with our bodies and serve as constant reminders of the values, perspectives and habits we need to remain resilient and thrive through life’s transitions and challenges.
Join anthropologist & expert in Rites of Passage techniques, Dr Monty Badami, as we develop tools to craft our own rituals and create meaning of the milestones in our lives.
In this workshops, we will:
- Learn about cross-cultural perspectives on ritual & change
- Explore archaeological, biological & historical evidence of how humans have marked change throughout our evolution
- Develop tools to craft our own rituals and meaningful practice to mark milestones in our lives
- Learn to deeply connect with our personal narrative to learn from our historic response to change
Whilst we don’t often get to choose change, when it will arise or how significant it will be, we do know that it is life's one constant and that we can choose how we are going to respond to it. Exploring the power of ritual throughout human history and across cultures, we will discover our agency in creating meaning and intention of the stories we want our lives to tell.
