Philosophy Salon: Plato

Plato was one of the world's earliest and possibly greatest philosophers. Born in Classical Greece approximately 428 BC, he is widely considered the most pivotal figure in the development of philosophy. Plato was the founder of the Academy in Athens, the first institution of higher learning in the Western world. He was devoted to making humanity more fulfilled, arguing that our lives should be dedicated to the pursuit of eudaimonia, a deep fulfilment that comes from living life wisely.

In this Philosophy Salon, we will be exploring three of Plato’s central ideas: Utopia, Reality & Appearance and The Good through some fundamental philosophical questions;

  • Is democracy a terrible way to run a state?
  • Is the world really as we perceive it?
  • What is a good life?
  • How should we act?

Join Philosopher Tim Dean in delving into the wisdom of Plato and how his ideas can be applied to create more fulfillment in our lives

'We can easily forgive a child who is afraid of the dark; the real tragedy of life is when men are afraid of the light.'
