Finding Meaning Without Religion
We can choose what we make of religion and how we might pursue spiritual matters – or not. There’s a tremendous freedom in that, but also a profound challenge.
We live in a period of human history in which, perhaps for the first time, no single religion or philosophy dominates.
While many of us feel little or no inclination to follow a particular religion, we are nonetheless conscious of what is often referred to as ‘the God-shaped hole’ – a sense of a higher purpose. We may even seek to nurture our spiritual side and deepen our understanding of how this might be achieved.
In this class, we will:
- Explore the ramifications of our secular predicament,
- Learn how people often try to fill the gap,
- Examine how successful the alternative ways to fill the gap are when set alongside traditional religious practice
- Identify some practices that you might take up in your own life.
