'I would live my life in nonchalance and insouciance, were it not for making a living, which is rather a nouciance.'

About Business Workshops
Many of the most pressing problems of the modern workplace have to do with shortfalls in emotional intelligence – rather than with deficiencies in technical or ‘hard’ skills. Bringing together the expertise of entrepreneurs, psychologists, thought leaders and CEOs – and drawing upon The School of Life’s unique expertise in cultivating emotional intelligence – our Professional Workshops will equip you with the tools and strategies needed to thrive in the modern workplace. They also provide the opportunity for informal networking with other business professionals.
Sophi Bruce crafts learning experiences for a range of people and contexts that focus on thinking differently, developing leadership impact and adapting to change. Sophi has lived and worked extensively in the UK and now in Australia where she holds roles with the University of Technology Sydney and Social Leadership Australia. She has previously worked within public and commercial sectors and holds a Honours degree in English Literature and a Masters in Communication. Her formative years were spent growing up in a commune learning the basics of collaboration, perspective sharing and tolerance.
In order to assist the small and start-up business community, the School of Life offers a selection of key business workshops in our public program. These provide a cost-effective way for start-ups or smaller businesses to access the support of developing key emotional skills to thrive in the professional lives and to sustain themselves, others and their business over time.
Day-to-day work can all too easily make us feel bored or burnt out. For many of us, this is when we start fantasising about changing careers. But what we most often need is to feel reconnected to our underlying values and the long-term impact of the work at hand.
In this three-hour session, we will:
- Rediscover our motivations and values and learn to prioritise among them
- Explore five different areas of work in which we can find meaning
- Spend time reflecting on our professional role and its place in our organisation
- Create an action plan which helps us scale up our deeper sense of purpose
