Couple & Other Relationships Psychotherapy - Initial Session
Couple Psychotherapy may sound like something we would only be interested in if a relationship were failing; in fact, it is the single greatest tool that can prevent it from doing so.
Couple Therapy is a safe forum in which to discuss issues that, when couples handle only by themselves, can too easily descend into misunderstanding or recrimination. When we feel that we haven’t ourselves been heard properly by our partner, we are less likely to want to hear them in turn. In the consulting room, everyone can safely have their say, can feel acknowledged, and as a result, progress can be made.
The couple therapist becomes the wise broker, allowing each person to express feelings (however awkward). They can see things through the eyes of both parties but never take either of their sides. Couple Counselling is a safe diplomatic back channel, away from the day to day. The therapist can hold both parties back for just long enough that they can start to understand what the other is going through. Renewed tenderness can follow.
A common fear before going to a couple therapist is that they may take the side of the other person in the relationship. There is in practice no such danger. The therapist has only one responsibility; and that is to the relationship itself.
If a decision has been taken to split, a therapist can also be helpful in helping to negotiate a graceful and kindly ending, one that honours the best sides of the relationship.
Far from a self-indulgence, undergoing couple therapy is one of the most generous things we could ever do for ourselves and one another.
We work online, so wherever you are geographically located, you can find a well suited therapist.
Other Relationships:
We also offer couples therapy for people who aren’t romantically involved. Friends, colleagues, siblings, parents and adult children, in-laws, separated or divorced couples, business partners, and relatives can benefit hugely from addressing issues together in a safe space.
Booking Information - Online Psychotherapy
The first step to engage in therapy is to attend an initial session. Please purchase one initial session at your earliest convenience.
Please note that there is currently a waiting time of a few weeks for initial sessions.
Please note that for all new bookings, our therapy service is online only. We feel that online therapy allows for continuity and connection, and transcends borders in a way that is hugely valuable.
The initial session will last 50 minutes, and the fee is £100 (or EUR/USD equivalent). This will be an opportunity for you to have an in-depth conversation with a highly qualified psychotherapist. You may then choose to have weekly follow-on sessions. As soon as we receive booking confirmation, a therapist will get in touch to arrange a time to meet. All sessions are held in English.
