Sonya Tsakalakis has previously worked as a genetic counsellor, community educator and a rehabilitation coordinator.
Fusing her dual passions for literature and wellbeing, Sonya launched the social enterprise, The Literary Hand. Partnering with leading community oriented entities such as cohealth, MIND Australia, and the City of Melbourne, Sonya creates and delivers literary based projects that engender self-awareness and social inclusion via her shared reading circles and literary parlours. Her work has stimulated interest from a diverse array of spheres within the media, ranging from The New Yorker to the NSW Writers’ Mag and she also gives presentations on the positive effects of reading for pleasure. Time Out Melbourne describes Sonya’s book matching prowess as ‘spot on’.
Sonya is passionate about the creative possibilities of using literature to enhance self –awareness and community connectedness.
