What to expect from a class at The School of Life
At each of our classes, you will be greeted by the tutor as you enter the classroom. The class will begin with refreshments and a chance to meet other participants.
A three-hour expertly designed class will follow - a lecture presentation on the topic interspersed with individual reflection and paired and group discussion.
You can start your journey to develop your emotional intelligence with The School of Life wherever you feel best, choosing the topics most relevant or interesting to you. We group classes into four categories: Work, Self, Love and Culture. Some people choose to work through a single category, while others select classes across all four categories.
Our most popular classes for first time attendees are:
- How to Identify Your Career Potential
- How to Be Confident
- How to Find Love
- How to Develop Self-Knowledge
For each class or workshop there is a dedicated handout to take away. Pencils and writing materials are supplied. Copies of the slides are not provided. We believe classes are to provide tools for living rather than spur excessive note-taking. Important ideas are printed in the handout.
There is no specific dress code - arrive however you feel most comfortable.
There are group and partnered discussion exercises, usually focusing on personal topics. We only encourage you to share things that you are comfortable with.
Absolutely. We have a mixture of people attending alone and with a friend or partner. All of our classes - including the Love ones - can be attended as an individual (nor does it matter whether you are currently in a romantic relationship or not). In fact, we often encourage conversation between strangers in our classes so that people do not spend the whole time with their friends (you can learn and even sometimes share more with strangers).
Please see here. Wherever possible we will list the faculty member in advance on the event page. Either way, you can get an overall sense of the types of people who lead our classes and workshops.
In the morning class you can expect coffee/teas and pastries, in the afternoon there will be a selection of cookies, coffee/tea and in the evening there are drinks and appetisers.
We see all ages over 18; people from all walks of life, but with similar concerns.
There are loads of lovely places to stay in the area depending on one's budget. There are airbnbs, hotels and hostels all very close to the classroom, which is near the Russell Square tube stop and also near Euston and King’s Cross stations.
The School of Life is an international company with branches around the world. Therefore we have a mixture of international and British people in the classes which are delivered in English.
