An Evening on Lasting Love with Esther Perel
Esther Perel is a psychotherapist and best-selling author whose work questions the intersection of intimacy and sexuality in long-term relationships. Her 2006 book Mating in Captivity: Unlocking Erotic Intelligence was a groundbreaking examination of our cultural expectations around marriage and sex, which helped to encourage conversation about an often taboo topic: the loss of passion and excitement within a loving relationship.
She has become a world-leading advocate for couples therapy, using her hugely popular books, talks and podcast series – Where Should We Begin? – to highlight the difficulties and complications of monogamy. As she herself puts it, ‘Never have we expected more from our intimate relationships, and never have we crumbled under the weight of so many expectations.’
Esther will take a close look at the idea of a fulfilling relationship. Is it an achievable aim? What can we do to strengthen our relationships? And should we reconsider our attitude towards monogamy itself?
She will be joined on stage by The School of Life’s founder Alain de Botton, whose own writings on love take a philosophical look at the nature of intimacy.
