Art Therapy
Art therapy has nothing to do with becoming an artist and one certainly doesn’t need to know how to draw ‘well’ (or care at all for drawing) in order to gain a lot from it. Rather, it’s a special technique for helping us to understand ourselves better. It starts from the idea that sometimes, just talking to a therapist won’t be enough to reveal what is really going on for us – and that being given a chance to express ourselves with artistic materials can give us a more accurate portrait of who we are, what we long for and what might liberate us. Art therapy is an ideal adjunct to more standard psychotherapy – and offers us an effective way to strengthen self-understanding, manage stress, and achieve a greater sense of serenity and freedom.
