Job Description

This is a fantastic new role created within the Publishing team, to lead marketing for this important channel within The School of Life. 

 

You will be a key member of the team, with overall responsibility for planning and executing a marketing plan to increase awareness and drive sales of our books for consumer and trade markets, though muti-channel campaigns. No day will look the same and you’ll have a deep passion for books and strong experience in the industry and be able to get booksellers & readers excited about our products.

What the role involves

Marketing Responsibilities
Assisting with the strategic planning and execution of innovative multi-channel marketing campaigns for our books (physical and eBooks) globally, encompassing both our exciting frontlist titles as well as our exceptional backlist.
Developing positioning and pitch from launch and evolving as necessary based on consumer engagement. Brand strategy and development; proactively growing brand awareness with both the trade and end consumer (i.e. partnership, general PR opportunities) to build a cult following of readers. Provide data analysis (especially post-campaign performance). Create content – including briefing designers to produce thumb-stopping visual assets and conversation-starting copy . Audience development and building including consumer and market research. Communicating marketing campaigns, strategies and performance to all internal and external stakeholders. Proactively pursuing new marketing opportunities, new ways of reaching readers and spotting commercial opportunities to increase sales, experimenting and reporting back to the wider team 


Consumer Marketing channels: 

Digital marketing – Amazon advertising, blog tours, BookTok  / Print marketing – magazine, newspaper, etc  / Partnership marketing – working with partners such as NetGalley, LoveReading, Caboodle etc. on campaigns / PR – Supporting our PR agencies to deliver outstanding PR campaigns as well as pitching for literary festivals

 

Trade marketing channels:
POS / window displays / retailer communication & promotions – leading our Bookseller newsletter 

 

Internationally:
Supporting US Marketing Agency, ensuring all titles are optimised and necessary materials created 

Experience

Minimum of 4 years of experience in marketing in trade publishing, a non-fiction focus is desirable. Experience working with, and optimising, title Metadata is a plus.

Mindset

A natural marketing ability, commercially minded with strong strategic ROI-led thinking. A willingness to learn, evolve and adapt with a keen interest in new marketing opportunities.

Superpower

Highly organised with the ability to see opportunities across all channels, making clever marketing decisions.

Skillset

Digital marketing, PR, Analytics, copywriting, content creation & briefing, budget management, brand strategy. Know your way around Office 365 & Slack. A natural ability to pick up systems.
