Not long ago, meditation was a fringe practice and mindfulness a concept that few outside spiritual circles were familiar with. Today it has become a normal and cherished part of modern life. Few people have done more to facilitate this shift than Jon Kabat-Zinn. His mindfulness-based stress reduction programme, now a staple of mental health interventions, brought mindfulness practices into the fold of western science and medicine. To this day, he keeps inspiring people around the world to discover the gifts of mindfulness.

In this deep talk with Jon Kabat-Zinn, we discuss the following questions while staying attuned to whatever emerges in the present moment:

Jon Kabat-Zinn

Jon Kabat-Zinn is Professor Emeritus of Medicine at the University of Massachusetts Medical School and founder of the Center for Mindfulness in Medicine, Health Care, and Society. Kabat-Zinn was a student of Zen Buddhist teachers such as Philip Kapleau, Thich Nhat Hanh and Seung Sahn and a founding member of the Cambridge Zen Center. His yoga practice and studies with Buddhist teachers led him to combine their teachings with scientific knowledge. Kabat-Zinn's stress reduction programme, Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR), is offered by medical centres, hospitals and health organisations worldwide. Jon Kabat-Zinn is the author of numerous best-selling books that have been translated into more than thirty languages.

Dr. Martin Ebeling

Dr. Martin Ebeling is Head of The School of Life for Business Germany. He facilitates events, leads classes and workshops in the public and business programs of The School of Life. He holds a PhD in philosophy and studied philosophy and political science in New York, Berlin, Potsdam and Frankfurt a. M.. As an author, he has published numerous scientific philosophical essays as well as the book "Conciliatory Democracy", in which he advocates a different approach to the disagreements in political opinion that shape our times.
