Business Event: Esther Perel on Relational Intelligence at Work
On the 7th of April 2021 the world-famous psychotherapist Esther Perel will speak about one of the most vital, and simultaneously one of the most overlooked aspects of modern work: relational intelligence. In Het Concertgebouw in Amsterdam she will make us aware of how our personalities, relational histories and interpersonal dynamics impact the way we work together - and thereby impact our success in business.
What is your relationship to authority? Do you take initiative, or do you wait to be told what to do? Do you find it easy to ask for help and receive feedback or not? All the relational habits we built in life don’t immediately disappear the moment we walk in the office door. We bring with us a history that will influence how we connect, communicate, engage in conflict, deal with trust and betrayal, and deal with ruptures and repair. It’s those underlying invisible dynamics that influence relationships in the workplace that can become quite riveting. And it is those dynamics to which we often don’t pay enough attention.
Esther Perel became world famous with her revolutionary outlook on modern love relationships. Her main claim is: it is the quality of our relationships that determines the quality of our lives. But this is not only true of our romantic relationships. We can also say: the quality of our work relations will determine the quality of our work, our sense of purpose and how much and how well we will actually achieve things at work.
This insight led Esther Perel to broaden her focus to the field of professional relationships. There are so many similarities between the problems we have in the relationships with our partners and those we have at work, that Perel is able to use the extensive knowledge she has on relationship issues to advice multinationals on how to improve the relationships in the workplace. Professional relationships must become a part of the bottom line of every company, and we should start to acknowledge that healthy work relationships are the key to success.
During this event Esther Perel will introduce us to the most relevant relationship insights, with the aim of improving our capability of working with others and developing high performance teams.
