“The impediment to action advances action.
What stands in the way becomes the way.”
Ryan Holiday is only 26 but he’s had three careers already: a college drop out at 19, becoming Marketing Director for American Apparel at 21, he was a bestselling author at 25. He attributes his success to his prodigious reading habit – obsessively keeping notes of life lessons in a commonplace book and putting those ideas into practice. In particular he embraces the Stoic philosophy that the obstacle blocking the path to your goal, is the very path to achieving it.
Many of those ancient writers tackled tougher problems than we’ll ever encounter; wars, political intrigues, life-threatening situations. Likewise people whom Ryan sees as their modern counterparts: the African-American boxer Rubin Hurricane Carter, wrongfully imprisoned; Amelia Earhart, facing down prejudice to achieve her dream of flight. But the lessons are the same, whatever the obstacle. Anything from an impossible to meet deadline, a failed business venture, the end of a relationship... These situations make us feel trapped, frustrated and powerless. And we tend to give up.
In this workshop, Ryan teaches you a simple (but not easy) three step approach to overcoming life’s challenges. It’s a mind-set that’s been tried and tested by some of history’s icons: from John D. Rockefeller to Amelia Earhart, Ulysses S. Grant to Steve Jobs. This formulae allowed them to face impossible situations, stare down adversity and achieve the astounding triumphs we all seek.
In this workshop, Ryan, with the help of Marcus Aurelius and other stoic philosophers, will reveal how to change your Perception, move into Action, and find the Will to overcome. He will discuss how you can turn everyday obstacles in your life into opportunities to be a good person, be creative and achieve greatness.
