Tweeting? Twittering? These days those words conjure social media more than birdsong. We experience the real world more and more through the digital screen, and concern is rising over our disconnection from the natural world. But is the problem technology itself or how we’re using it? Rather than trying to separate tech from life, should we be looking at better ways of connecting up the wonders of the virtual and the natural world? Need tweeting and twittering really be so far apart?
To find out, this evening audio-visual artist Kathy Hinde will initiate us as fully fledged twitchrs. That is, she’ll take us on a walking and recording tour of the streets to find sounds to contribute to www.twitchr.co.uk, her collective soundmapping artwork that combines bird watching, social networking and a graphic score.
Hinde will be joined by a bird expert to help us discover the art of identifying birdsong. We’ll also gain some expert knowledge of how to read the urban habitat near The School of Life.
Join us for a summer evening city walk with peaceful birdsong and creative activities that contribute to twitchr’s ever-evolving soundscape.
We’ll meet in The School of Life shop and go walking from there. You’ll need outdoor clothes and comfortable shoes. The only essential equipment is to bring a pair of headphones. If you have a smartphone, bring that too.
Nights Out is a series of Summer evening adventures exploring how we can open our minds and senses to get more creative inspiration from everyday life.
