Is it true that listening to Def Leppard changes how wine tastes? Can you tell the difference between whether water is hot and cold just by hearing it being poured? Can sound alone make crisps seem crunchier? And the memory of a much-loved song enhance the flavour of digestive? Experiment and find out for yourself in this evening of sensory exploration with artist and researcher Russ Jones.
Throughout most of our daily lives, we’re unaware of how much the sounds around us shape our experiences. From deciphering simple information to unlocking emotional memories, everything we hear has an impact on our perception and our behaviour. When we eat the amount of pleasure we get, and the balance of flavours on our palette, depends much more heavily than we might think on our sonic environment.
