On Truth: a Box Set

At The School of Life we believe literature has the power to transform lives and that quality will always matter more than quantity. Each title in our Box Set collection contains our pick of essential classic and modern texts on a given theme. They’re our favourite lifetime companions and guides.

This set is titled Truth. It gathers the ideas of four very different thinkers, each with a unique and clear-eyed vision of the world.

A set of four hardback books | Linen bound with foil graphics | 12cm x 20cm x 8.5cm

Winner of a D&DA award: Wood Pencil/Book Design/Specialist & Limited Edition Books 2016

Meditations by Marcus Aurelius
Written as a source for his own guidance and self-improvement, the Meditations are a simply-written reflection of Roman emperor Marcus Aurelius' Stoic worldview.

The Unquiet Grave by Cyril Connolly
Aphorisms, quotes, musings, elegies and mental explorations fill this genre-defying work.

Straw Dogs by John Gray
A treatise which challenges our idea of what it is to be human, asking us to imagine a world in which humans are not the central concern.

Collected Maxims by La Rochefoucauld
La Rochefoucauld's collection of over 500 pithy maxims are often sharply witty. They tell us truths we may not wish to hear: 'If we had no faults, we would not take so much pleasure in noticing those of others.'
