Job Description

In this role you will proactively pursue leads across the trade. You will work closely with our Sales, Marketing and Publishing teams, as well as distributors and rep teams, to engage directly with booksellers, building brand awareness, increasing sales and growing the presence of The School of Life Press across the trade.

 

You will be in regular contact with booksellers following through on opportunities to put The School of Life front and centre within their stores. The goal of this regular contact is to aid engagement and awareness of The School of Life across the book trade – to get the brand understood and to create a solid base on which the team can build sales.

What the role involves

Support for UK, US and ANZ Sales Distribution

You will be creating and circulating sales material & responding to rep sales material requirements, building relationships with the sales coordinators in each territory. Plus Export Sales support – as above, but across Europe and Middle East to support export rep teams

 

Trade outreach projects

You will explore opportunities to present our titles to schools/libraries and work with them to enable marketing collaboration. You’ll attend events to support publishing launches in tandem with organisations such as galleries, festivals etc. You’ll support the Sales Director in identifying Hub stores, following up and ensuring retailers are supported and engaged

 

Sales
You’ll manage the distribution of all sales and marketing materials for the book trade globally. You’ll work with United Agents to ensure they have regular sales material and are kept updated on new titles. Attending trade facing events (e.g. book fairs) will be part of the role as well as managing review & sales platforms e.g. Netgalley, Edelweiss. You will identify digital sales opportunities / incentives and manage and engage with all the Ingram sales and marketing systems – including CoreSource and Marketing Insights – ensuring all necessary metadata and materials are provided across all sales and marketing channels. You will also  identify and engage with promotional opportunities across all sales platforms e.g. Bookshop.org.

Experience

Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in trade publishing Sales.

Mindset

Commercially minded with strong attention to detail & a willingness to learn, evolve and adapt. Outgoing and driven, with a strong work ethic. Ability to work both independently and as part of a team. You'll be looking to grow in your role and contribute to the growth of The School of Life. You'll love books and have a keen eye on the world of publishing.

Superpower

Highly organised with the ability to handle multiple projects with changing priorities and deadlines, and the ability to think task through with clarity, reporting back on outcomes and considering implications across the team.

Skillset

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. A natural aptitude for sales. Know your way around Office 365 & Slack. A natural ability to pick up systems.
