A little perfectionism can be a good thing, driving us to aim high and to get things just right. But too much perfectionism and we quickly become overwhelmed and lose confidence. So it’s crucial to be able to tolerate and even embrace imperfection at work, at home, and in relationships.
This class focuses on finding the correct balance. We discuss what it feels like to suffer from the ills of perfectionism, and how counter-productive this impulse can be. We consider the causes of perfectionism in the modern world and in our personal histories. Then, we investigate how to be better, more effective perfectionists where it counts, and when to wisely surrender to imperfection.
Our classes have been designed to give useful insights around the big themes in life. You’ll be challenged to think deeply about the issues that matter most, and provided with a space to share your thoughts, ideas and experiences with other curious, open-minded individuals.
These sessions are designed by experts and taught by members of our faculty. They include a mix of lecture, conversation and group activity. Optional homework is provided for those interested in further study.
