A Day of Good Design With Ilse Crawford
We want to be modern, but we want to be human too' - Ilse Crawford Ilse Crawford is constantly breaking new ground in her study of the individual's search for the perfect home. Today you’ll have the chance to move beyond your senses, as we explore our basic human drives for survival, safety, love, respect and self-fulfillment, and how this effects our relationship with good design. Despite our increasing reliance on technology to bring ease and comfort to our lives, Ilse says 'we still want a sense of humanity, of home - a space that speaks to us radically and emotionally.' This inspiring day, will focus on experiencing good design, in particularly the design we interact with in everyday life. Aimed at everyone from the passionate frequenter of design shops to professionals keen to discuss the concept of good design in new ways, we’ll visit a number of different locations and meet experts who’ll shed light on the how design affects our moods, thoughts and actions. Ilse Crawford is the creative director who launched British Elle Decoration in 1989. She is the founder of the pioneering brand identity company Studioilse, who’s portfolio includes: Soho House New York, the Electric cinema, High Road House, Cecconis, London and the influential hotel Babington House, Bath. Studioilse has created a range of furniture , 'the Other' for Baleri Italia as well as 36-24-36 table and lamps. She has worked across product development and regeneration as vice president of Donna Karan home where she helped to launch DKNY and Donna Karan homeware, and as Creative Director of the Crystal Palace project, where she brought together visionary designers t reinvent the chandelier, showing in Paris, Milan and New York as well as at London's Design Museum. |
