Past Sermons
Our programme of secular sermons launched in October 2008, when Tom Hodgkinson took to the pulpit to urge a packed congregation to remember the importance of loving your neighbour. His talk was a timely one, peppered with references to what we can learn from the damnation of today’s money lenders, and how we can find salvation by lending a hand to those around us without looking to profit. Other preachers have included writer Geoff Dyer on Punctuality, entrepreneur Sam Roddick on Seduction, philosopher Alain de Botton on Pessimism, scientist Richard Wiseman on Humour and entrepreneur Luke Johnson on Risk. The sermons are highly theatrical events and it is impossible to capture the full sense of occasion online. But do browse through our archive to see pictures of the events and download the parish newsletter we produced for each. Our congregation is rapidly swelling and now often exceeds 500. It’s a passionate crowd, curious about what our collective values should be in a secular age, open to persuasion about the things that really matter in the face of increasing economic, ecological and emotional uncertainty. We encourage you to join us for one of the upcoming sermons.
