Utopian Feasts
In the mediaeval utopia of Cockaygne, ready-to-eat larks fly into your mouth and the sky rains cheese. While we can’t take you there, we will transport you to feast in alternative idea-worlds where you can fuel up on brain-fodder, feed your creativity, debate ideas and design a better future. The Feasts combine extraordinary conceptual catering with a menu of conversation ideas. Each is guided by an expert in the history of ideas, co-curated by the gastronaut Stefan Gates and hosted by the artist Yinka Shonibare MBE in his Guest Project Spce. New Order nosh-up in New Atlantis Wednesday 4 April 2012 Is it possible to design society? To live to the utmost, should we rebel or conform? In the company of utopians from Bacon and Comte to Mary Wollstonecraft and Oscar Wilde, we’ll ponder neglected side-stories and radical ideas abandoned by the grand social experiments of history, and dream up our own revolutionary schemes. Sci-fi supper on Spaceship Earth Wednesday 6 June 2012 Will science save or destroy us? In the future will we need to leave the planet? Join us for a far-out evening chasing the comet-tails of luminaries from Buckminster Fuller and Carl Sagan to Mary Shelley. Set your kaleidoscope on the real technological futures glimmering on the horizon. Spend time thinking with your fellow guests about what kind of contribution we each want to make to the future. Each dinner will take place in Guest Projects, artist Yinka Shonibare MBE's experimental project space, in Broadway Market near London Fields. Tickets are £55 per person .
